Indicative Living Costs
Living costs may vary according to your lifestyle. The Department of Home Affairs provides an indicative annual living cost of approximately AUD$21,040 for a student. An additional AUD$7362 for a partner and AUD$3152 for a child. These costs are subject to change and you should refer to the Department of Home Affairs website for the latest information.
Accommodation Options
There is a wide range of student accommodation options available to international students in Queensland. Some accommodation options may require a security bond. The security bond is generally 4 weeks’ rent which is refundable at the conclusion of the lease assuming that the accommodation is vacated in the same condition as it was at the beginning of the lease and there are no outstanding rental payments. Some of the accommodation options include:
- Homestay is a popular type of accommodation. Students live with Australian families who provide a furnished room and up to three meals a day. Costs can vary, but are generally around AUD$200-AUD$260 a week, with a one-off placement fee of approximately AUD$195 – AUD$210.
- Rental accommodation. Price will vary depending on the type, standard and location of the property. As a guide, a two-bedroom apartment could cost between AUD$300 and AUD$400 per week, and a three-bedroom house could cost between AUD$350 to AUD$A500 per week.
- Shared accommodation with other students, is a popular option because it reduces living expenses and fosters a supportive environment. The price for accommodation varies on the type, standard and location. The cost of renting a room varies depending on the location and length of stay but is generally between AUD$100 to AUD$220 per week.

Working in Australia
As an International Student, your primary focus is the successful completion of your Qualification with BPC. Your study visa will allow you to work limited hours.
Please ensure you are familiar with the conditions of your visa so that you do not jeopardise your studies in Australia.
If you wish to seek part-time work and you are confident it will not interfere with your studies, a BPC representative will be able to assist you with finding work to suit your College timetable and within the area of expertise of the qualification that you are studying. Please note there is no guarantee that you will find suitable work arrangements.
